Founded by the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Marywood University is a comprehensive Catholic institution of more than 3,400 students, committed to the integration of liberal arts and professional studies in the context of ethical and religious values. Marywood is located in a residential area of Scranton in Northeastern Pennsylvania, with convenient access to the Pocono Mountains. The School of Social Work and Administrative Studies, with both BSW and MSW programs and a social work track in an interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Human Development, is in the College of Health and Human Services, along with programs in Health and Physical Education, Nutrition and Dietetics, Physician Assistant, Nursing, Public Administration, and a "world class" Human Physiology Lab.

Marywood University will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015, having been founded as Marywood College in 1915.
